This Fall Ball season has been historic for our program both for the number of players who participated, and the amount of beginners and 8th graders who joined us mid-stream. Some of them got to experience the game firsthand during our scrimmages even after only picking up a stick for the first time weeks earlier. Kudos to them for jumping right in, and for our seasoned players to put them in a position to be able to contribute so soon by getting us early leads and limiting opponent scoring.
In the Fall we have more flexibility to work with other programs with similar goals and ideals. Not only did our players get to square up against Roosevelt and Bishop Blanchet through friendly competition, they also got an understanding of the family and community aspects of the sport. Us coaches and some of our players have competed with and against many on the other sides throughout the years. They got to meet and greet them as hosts and guests, and put a face to the players under the helmet. It is important for them to respect all involved in the sport in a similar regard to teammates and self.
The two scrimmages gave us a small window into what the future could potentially hold for us, and the team was able to absorb and execute portions of our scheme with very little time to learn. Thanks to Lake Stevens and Skagit Valley for graciously hosting a beautiful day of lacrosse scrimmages in Sedro-Woolley, and to Roosevelt and Blanchet for sharing knowledge and fields with us during our joint practice sessions.
